The Hair Test for Food Intolerances:

What is it?

If you suffer from any sort of symptoms, whether they be physical (digestive problems, sinus issues, migraines) or emotional (anxiety, mood swings, depression), you may be surprised to learn that something in your diet or home environment may be aggravating your body. This is particularly likely if you have suffered the condition for many years. Medications may help, but not eradicate the problem. The hair test helps you to identify aggravating foods and household products, so you can remove them, rest your immune system and start to feel in improvement in your health.

The test is $250 for 500 items and includes a 16 page dietary advice report, with full instructions for how to follow the wellness program for the next six months.

It’s important to note that the hair analysis test is VERY different from common hair mineral analysis testing. Coloured hair is totally fine to use; whether it be from your head (or armpits, or chest: for the bald males.) If you don’t have any hair, then saliva is used.

How it works: a look at the technology behind Bio-Compatibility testing

The Bio-Compatibility System is the result of 30 years of research and development.

The technique is based on the way in which the foods and products we use affect the flow of energy through the body. If the energy systems within the body are compromised in any way by a food/product that is biologically incompatible, the cells cannot function optimally. This may lead to an immune response, inflammation, and ultimately reactive symptoms.

Using hair samples, Bio-Compatibility testing identifies the influence (either positive or negative) that each of a wide range of foods and products has on the delivery and storage systems in each cell. In this way, we are then able to determine which foods and products should be avoided and which should be consumed/used.

What the hair analysis test covers

The standard Australian test covers a list of over 500 items— including all food groups, bathroom, laundry, and kitchen products. This includes common local brands (specific to each country in which the test is conducted) found in supermarkets and health food stores. Each item is tested in the form it is usually consumed (both raw and cooked where applicable).

There are two more specialty lists — A Baby foods and products test to assist mums and babies with troublesome symptoms. Cost: $260.

Pets: this test uses your pet’s fur/feathers to determine likely intolerances for common pet foods and products. Your pet’s symptoms may include digestive or skin issues, joint pain, or even anxiety. Cost: $180.

You may order the test from anywhere in Australia without an appointment, but for optimal results, it is recommended you have a consultation with me to ensure you get the best out of implementing your modified diet.

  • Hair Testing took the guess work out of finding what foods I have sensitivities to. I do not have severe allergies, but suffered from a general lethargy, foggy headedness, itchy skin, frequent headache behind one eye, muscle aches and pains, and, frequent bloating and abdominal pain followed by continual burping. All these symptoms, whilst not severe, caused moderate discomfort and a loss of “joy for life"... I followed what I considered to be a very healthy, varied diet…full of vegetables, fruits, small amount of organic eggs and meats, fish, nuts….. only an occasional beverage, dairy foods, coffee, or sweets. Results were a surprise... onion, capsicum, chicken, strawberries, butter, some milk products, wines and beer, to name a few. Onion, capsicum, strawberries and organic chicken were a big part of my ‘healthy diet'... Never would I have considered they were culprits. A week following the process of eliminating those foods, and I already began to feel improvement. Fast forward 5 months and I rarely suffer a headache, or the lethargy, bloating……any of the symptoms I mentioned above. I have been 95% diligent with the program, but even when I have an occasional wine or strawberry, or a meal with onion and red capsicum... I don't seem to suffer the consequences. In another month I am due for a retest. I am curious to see the results. I would not hesitate to encourage anyone considering this test to give it a go. The best part is the simplicity in isolating the irritants that are causing the inflammation or symptoms that you suffer from. It may seem expensive, but it has certainly been worth the health changes I have seen in my day to day life.

  • As someone who had no idea that the hair test existed, I was very impressed with what it was able to do with such ease. When you suggested it originally, I was having regular stomach upsets and often felt bloated. I had passed it off as “getting older” and was just putting up with it. Since the first test 6 months ago, I have felt much better and the improvement continued until none of that original discomfort remains. I would recommend this test to anybody who has a food related issue, (even if they don’t realise it). This is so simple and so comprehensive.

  • Having worked as a nurse and seen the benefit of diet changes, I thought it would be of interest to undergo the hair test. I hadn’t been aware that this test was available. I was aware that certain things made me feel less than great, so I did the hair test to determine what my body is able to tolerate. The test outlined some chemicals/foods that cause my body to not function at its best. By eliminating these things, over the course of several months I have been able to not only lose weight, but feel well for the first time in a very long time. I have also been able to save money and not waste foods that would have otherwise been useless to me. I have virtually eliminated dairy from my diet and have found that not only am I feeling well and have no more digestive problems, I have also more energy as well. If asked if this test is beneficial to someone I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone. In fact, I already have!

  • Approximately nine months ago my Naturopath Lynda suggested we look at Bio-Compatibility testing after I reported to her feeling tired, at times constipated and /or frequently feeling bloated. The information from the testing would then allow Lynda to determine more specifically what may be causing my problems. The testing on my hair sample determined that there were a number of foods and household products that did not agree with me. I was then able to eliminate these from my diet and check in with Lynda as to how this was going. I felt really good after about 3 weeks abstaining from the foods that were shown to be causing problems. After approximately 8 months I was retested and found that many of the aggravating foods (from my first testing) were no longer a problem. Lynda explained a few other foods had in fact shown up. She explained that I could slowly reintroduce some of the foods that had not appeared on the retest sample after 4 weeks abstaining from all foods from both the first and second list. I felt worried about reintroducing the foods from my first test that did not appear on the retest list but after some time have introduced some of these with no ill effects. I am really thankful that I was able to do the Bio-Compatibility testing as this allowed me to understand more about different foods and their particular effects on my system. Thank you Lynda, for your guidance and care in assisting me with developing an understanding of which foods can affect my good health and wellbeing.

  • I attended an information meeting on Menopausal symptoms in July last year. Lynda Harding spoke about how our reactions to food, fibres and chemicals can have an impact on how our body reacts and behaves in certain circumstances. She spoke about the hair reaction test and how it tests over 500 brand name products and I decided to have it done. My first test came back and I had 43 reactions to foods and other products such as cleaning, toothpaste etc. So after my first disappointment on having Wine on my list, I decided that I would give this a good go as I had paid the money for the test and I had nothing but my symptoms to lose. Some of my problems were bloating, some wind pain after eating but the most dramatic one that was affecting my day to day life was the night flushes that were waking me every hour. I can tell you that I was pretty good with my diet except I did have some Champagne on New Year’s Eve, but after a couple of weeks my main problem of not sleeping changed dramatically and I slept for a solid 6 hours for the first time in years. It was heaven!! Also after about 6 months I lost around 4 kgs which is great. I have since had my second hair test and I only came back with 15 reactions this time. Quite a few of my original ones were now off the banned list and I only had two new ones added along with some of the original still on it. I cannot recommend this test highly enough to those who are willing to look for answers to certain problems without having to take a pill or such. I will continue on my journey and look forward to continuing to feel good in my now so called” middle age

  • Last year I started my journey to improve the quality of my life under the guidance of Lynda Harding. I was carrying extra weight, feeling sluggish, not sleeping well, snoring regularly, aching in the joints and didn’t have as much energy as I used to have. With Lynda’s help, I made some basic changes to my life which kick-started the process, but it wasn’t until I had my hair tested and discovered that I had intolerances to a variety of foods, drinks and chemicals that things really started to change. My list was quite extensive, but I was able to avoid most of the offending things most of the time and my weight started to drop, I was sleeping much better (even seemed to be having less hot flushes at night – I’m 56), was snoring less, my joints weren’t as swollen and I had less pain (especially in my fingers and knees) and I felt physically and mentally stronger and more energised. I saw it as a big adventure and enjoyed finding ways to cook using different ingredients and developed strategies when I was eating out so that I could stay on-track. It was interesting when I had the re-test done and discovered that most of the items on the original list had disappeared. There are still a few things that I can’t have and a few new things have appeared, but it’s not an issue. It’s totally worth it to feel good and look better. I’ve even noticed that my eyes are clearer, my hair is healthier and my skin is looking a little fresher. Getting a good night’s sleep is one of the best things and contributes a lot to how you deal with each day. I’d highly recommend having the test done. It has changed the way I live and feel. I’d go as far to say that I feel better than I did 10 years ago.
